The Republic of South Sudan
The country gained its independence on the 9th July 2011. Total area is 619,745 Km2 and the Capital is Juba. The population is estimated in 2015 to be 12 Million. The official language is English, and the currency is South Sudanese pound (SSP).
Overall production is around 170,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Current Country Production
From Melut Basin: ranging between 100,000 bbl/d.
In Muglad the production is around 60,000 bbl/d in block 1,2 & 4.
Block 5A is producing around 8,000 bbl/d. the block has higher potential but it is capped at 10,000
Fourteen (14) blocks are open for investors as outlined belowA1, A2, A3, A4, Aa5, A6 B1, B4, C1, C2, D1, D2, E1, E2
The Map below shows the different blocks by color as follows:
- White: Open blocks on offer
- Green: producing blocks
- Yellow: Licensed Exploration blocks
Most of these blocks contain only gravity and magnetic data, seismic and drilling are scarce.
The two major basins, Muglad and Melut are formed by rifting cycles and seems to truncate along the Central African Sheer Zone (CASZ) as shown in the map below.
A couple of blocks extend northwards from Anza Basin which has a proven petroleum system with discoveries in Kenya.
All basins of South Sudan exhibit extension asymmetric and symmetric rift basins containing thick continental clastic sediments and minor volcanics. Reservoir, source and seal beds of late Cretaceous and Tertiary are preserved in these basins. The Location of the offered blocks within the Muglad basin and adjacent to a valid petroleum system show their high potentiality. Favourable trend for HC accumulations in the surrounding concession area can be extended as a proven trend to the frontier blocks areas.
