JEMEZA COMMERCIAL REFINERY PROJECT | project STATUS
South Sudan being a landlocked country without access to sea requires that most of the produced crude Oil be refined by erecting commercial refineries to supply the region. 100,000 bbl./day Commercial Refinery is required; for export and national supply of refined products, leads to establishment of petrochemical industries, promotes agriculture through use of fertilizers, production of furniture, prolongs petroleum production life span, acts as value addition |
Pre-feasibility market studies was carried out Since 2008, Requires investors or on Public Private Partnership basis |
|
AKON REFINERY | project STATUS
The refinery in Bahr El Ghazal was proposed to produce initially 50,000 bbl./day and subject to expansion It was to refine crude oil from Unity Oil fields with a distance of over 300kms to the refining site Full Feasibility studies was undertaken by an Italian company known as APS that presented the project to the council of Ministers 2008-2009 |

Is a joint venture between the Government and the Russian shefnat company with initial proposed capacity of 5,000 bbl. Per day Currently the company is considered a topping plant that only produces 3% diesel and 7% heavy oil due to no planned cracking Units The Government share is 51% once the Russian Republic’s company shefnat recovers it cost |
The company lacks evacuation routes of the products to the main urban consumption areas Some products are being consumed by the operating companies’ power demand |
|
THIANGRIAL REFINERY | project STATUS
The refinery was proposed to be on a build, operate and Transfer (BOT) based contract and is also a topping plant like Bantiu refinery without cracking units The foundation was already started, but due to conflict in South Sudan, the refinery partners from the US stopped work |

PETROLEUM RESERVES ESTIMATES AND NEW FRONTIER EXPLORATION PROJECTS | project STATUS
The project had started since before the independence of South Sudan and was supported by the Norwegian partners with full involvement of South Sudanese professionals who shuttled between Oslo and Juba It was to cover the whole country of which some progress was already achieved in Unity oil fields where research results showed that the then unity oil field including Heglig was having recoverable reserves of >800 million bbls of crude oil Through reserves estimates and exploration of new un-explored frontier areas; the Ministry of petroleum can increase production life span of the oil fields. Knowing a country’s reserves creates hope and ensures sustainable economic growth and development of the entire national infrastructures with adequate funding available With the establishment of the South Sudan Geophysical company, it’s possible to sign exploration contracts as joint ventures with the national company to discover more reserves |
The project requires revitalization so it can be activated with partners in Norway and Initial funding from MOP is required |
|
ENHANCED/IMPROVED OIL RECOVERY PROJECTS | project STATUS
Is aimed at; Improving oil to water mobility ratio that will effect fast flow of crude oil from underground with less accompanying associated water, Increases the life span of the oil production which assures the Government of continuous flow of revenues from crude oil sales and finally fosters economic development There is need to undertake research on the properties of reservoirs of South Sudan Oil fields and finally run economic models of various oil fields for the use of chemicals to enhance the recovery |

Model villages’ project is a solution to pollution problems incurred by living close to the operations areas. In each model village services such as water, electricity, internal and linking roads, community centers, schools, dispensaries etc. The Botswana experience is so important in that its communities who live in low rain zones of the country with scarce rains have been salvaged by a huge water pipe brought from the north. Scattered settlements grouped into model villages with the least village having 500 House hold |
