The project was initially an offer from the Central Ministry of Petroleum of the Republic of Sudan before independence to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining of south Sudan to be fully funded by the Sudan Petroleum corporation aimed at attracting unity The project faced hurdles in its takeoff due to difficulty in obtaining land in central equatorial, The storage facility project will ensure controlled prices by Government, because retailers can only obtain refined products from the storage facilities and sell at regulated margins MOP is expected to establish petrol stations and more storage facilities with every state expected to have a big storage facility for supply of refined products to counties The storage facilities shall also be strategic fuel security facilities because the entire country’s machinery shall operate with guaranteed supplies and the marketing of goods will also become affordable to the public due to no imports’ charges on fuel
