The project had started since before the independence of South Sudan and was supported by the Norwegian partners with full involvement of South Sudanese professionals who shuttled between Oslo and Juba It was to cover the whole country of which some progress was already achieved in Unity oil fields where research results showed that the then unity oil field including Heglig was having recoverable reserves of >800 million bbls of crude oil Through reserves estimates and exploration of new un-explored frontier areas; the Ministry of petroleum can increase production life span of the oil fields. Knowing a country’s reserves creates hope and ensures sustainable economic growth and development of the entire national infrastructures with adequate funding available With the establishment of the South Sudan Geophysical company, it’s possible to sign exploration contracts as joint ventures with the national company to discover more reserves
