Hon. Puot Kang Chol.

Born on the 1st of January, 1985, in Mandeeng, Nasir County- Upper Nile State. He went to Dima Primary School in Dima Refugee Camp. He had his secondary education at Kebena, a Private Secondary School in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and thereafter attended the Cavendish University Uganda where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law (LLB).

Hon. Puot Kang Chol is currently the Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of South Sudan. He was appointed by the President of the Republic of South Sudan Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit. In March 2020, as the South Sudan Cabinet Minister of Petroleum. Hon. Puot Kang Chol had served as a member of the National Pre-Transitional Committee representing SPLM -IO. His work alongside his colleagues was to ensure that the Revitalized- Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan signed in 2018 (R-ARCiSS) is implemented in letter and spirit.

Before this current appointment, he served briefly as a member of the Revitalized Transitional National Assembly in 2016 before the Peace Agreement collapsed. As a Minister of one of the largest Oil Producing states in East Africa, Hon. Puot Kang Chol played a key role in the initiation and implementation of the Unified Human Resources Policy Manual 2020 (UHRPM) which brought about the realization of the Rights of the South Sudanese Nationals Working in the Joint Operating Companies (JOCs) in terms of Pay raised. An initiative that was applauded by many locals as a patriotic and a reform agenda. In 2014, He was subsequently appointed as the Chairman of the SPLM/A -IO National Youth League and a member of the Political bureau.

In 2008, He performed excellently in the SPLM Party working as an Executive Director in the office of Dr Ann Itto, who was the Deputy Director of the Southern Sector. Early 2010, he was later appointed as a Director of Membership and Recruitment in the SPLM Party till the outbreak of the 2013 war.   

In his current role as the Incumbent Minister of  Petroleum in the Republic of South Sudan, he has so far achieved many of his goals and a few vital priority areas are in progress. These include; [1] Environmental Audit (It has reached its final stage) and [2]Unified Human Resources Policy Manual (UHRPM) 2020. (Completed) [3] Geophysical Aircraft for Mineral survey. (Completed) [4]Crops Dusting Aircraft. (Completed) [5]Local Content Regulation. (Completed) [6]Cost Recovery Audit. (In Progress) [7] Restructuring of the Ministry of Petroleum Policy. (Approved)  [8] Establishment of the Training Center for capacity building for the direct hires & Partners Secondees. (Completed)[9]Completion of the Data Centre for the Petroleum and Geophysical Data storage. (Completed) [10]Working assiduously to support President Salva Kiir in his poise to achieving his target of raising millions of South Sudanese out of poverty via job creation.

In a further show of dedication to giving back, he served as a Chairperson of the National Committee of Petroleum and Mining in the SPLM/A-IO Party. He is also the longest-serving member of the Political Bureau of the Sudan people's Liberation Movement /Army -In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO)

He is a mentor to several young minds and has committed his time and resources to inspire and empower a new class of South Sudanese, especially in underserved societies, with essential skills and tools for self-development.
