On Monday, October 28th, 2024, Hon. Dr. Chol Deng T. Abel, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Eng. Kon John Akot, the Director General for Petroleum Authority officially open three days workshop on resumption of oil production in block 3 and 7 of Paloch oil fields. In his opening remarks, he emphasises that the workshop which involve BAPCO, DPOC and Ministry of Petroleum is tremendous. He outlined that the two ministries of Sudan and South Sudan were given a clear message by the two sisterly countries leaders to seek the appropriate approach to ensure that all the activities by BAPCO, DPOC and Ministry of Petroleum are aligned towards resumption of oil production. Since 2011, DPOC and BAPCO operations had never been affected and disrupted by both 2013 and 2016 crisis in South Sudan. Dr. Chol stated the DPOC was the only company out of three consortiums that had continued to operate despite the challenges facing the oil industry by then. He wished that the war in Sudan should come to an end very soon and the two countries will make use of the resources for the betterment of the two nations.

He also added that the stability in Sudan is the stability of their sisterly country South Sudan, because oil is the lifeline of the two nations and that will endeavor the two government to work together to ensure that oil flow is protected. Dr. Chol took the opportunity to welcome those who come to South Sudan for the first time to feel free in their second country. He concluded is opening remarks by wishing the team to discuss the issues of high concern with the spirit brotherhood in order to reach the conclusion that deserves both countries.
